Why does the unique Värska therapeutical mud work?
And what diseases can be treated with it

While elsewhere, people are wrapped in a mud bath, a visitor to the Värska spa treatment centre can relax in a comfortable, body-shaped bath, in a genuine therapeutic mud. These baths are sarcophagus baths specially developed for the mud cure procedure in Värska sanatorium. They closely follow the shape of a person’s body and are designed to maximise relaxation in the bath.

According to the length of your body, the attendant will position a footrest and place a pillow filled with warm water under your head. The mud bath is taken at a temperature of 41-43 degrees, so quite hot. You’ll have plenty of time to sit quietly and get used to the heated mud. Once you’re covered in mud, you won’t want to get out!

The hot mud bath has a thermal effect on the body, its pleasant creamy composition caresses your skin and the rich bouquet of organic compounds ensures good therapeutic properties. And its scent is proof that it is a pure natural substance with no artificial additives.

The therapeutic mud flows directly into the bath through coarse tubes. It moves from the mud room to the bath, having been pre-heated in a special mud reactor located in the basement of the treatment room. The mud is brought to the reservoir from the mudflats of Värska Bay, next to the sanatorium, where it is extracted from the bottom of the lake every few years by a special ship.

Värska Bay mud is lake mud. Lake mud is much richer in organic matter than sea mud. Lake mud also has a more pleasant smell and is better tolerated.

Mud treatment is suitable for both cosmetic procedures and more serious treatments. Suitable for a wide range of conditions, but contraindicated in some cases.

This is the most distinctive procedure of the Värska spa treatment center
and the most common mud treatment,
which gives a pleasantly relaxed feeling

The therapeutical mud is diluted with very salty Värska mineral water at a temperature of 41-43 degrees. Freshwater mud therapy is a procedure that treats chronic inflammation and relieves pain, is bio-stimulating (speeds up metabolism and cellular renewal) and removes excess fluids and toxins from the body.

Therapeutical mud acts on the body as a thermal, mechanical and chemical irritant. Changes occur in the nervous and cardiovascular systems, skin, blood composition, metabolic processes. Mud procedures increase the pulse rate of the patients, at the beginning of the procedure also the breathing, and improve blood circulation. At the beginning of the course of treatment, the chronic disease process may be slightly exacerbated as the metabolism is activated.

Värska therapeutic mud is considered to be one of the world’s most unique therapeutic freshwater mud, which is said to have no analogue in the world. Freshwater mud is ten times richer in organic substances than sea mud, and also contains sulphur hydrogen.
